April 6 Police Horse Training- Despooking and Confidence building clinic, A Touch of Heaven Ranch Depew Oklahoma. Bill Richey, the founder and CEO of National Mounted Police Services, Inc. is a POST certified mounted police instructor. He was instrumental in creating the mounted units for the city of Duluth, also in Forsyth and Gilmer Counties (Georgia) and training their officers and horses. He worked with Atlanta Police Mounted Unit in preparation for the 1996 Olympics and was also involved in reorganizing the unit. He was the chief instructor for Mobile Mounted Police Mardi Gras School. Mr. Richey has participated in and won or placed in every national mounted police competition he has entered. He has over 30 years experience as a mounted police officer or mounted police trainer, and almost as many as civilian trainer/ instructor. He has spent countless hours training officers and civilians from all over North America, the Middle east and South America, as well as their mounts, to perform safely and professionally, from the trail, to the movies, to the show ring and to Mardi Gras. We have the amazing opportunity to have a clinic here in Oklahoma! Officer Richey is a fantastic instructor who takes time and works with a horse and rider at the beginning of a clinic and turns them into a TEAM by the end of a clinic with TRUST being the magic word. April 14 Rain or Shine 4-H Murray County Trail Ride, Howe Ranch, In the Arbuckle Mountains on the 3500 acre historic Howe Ranch.  Riders check in at ranch headquarters 15 miles south of Sulphur on US Highway 177.  Watch for sign on side of Highway. (From south, ranch is 10 miles north of Dickson) $15.00 per person.  This includes a lunch of smoked brisket on a bun with beans, chips and a drink. Money must accompany each reservation slip and be returned to the Murray County Extension office no later than April 6, 2018 (please complete the medical release form on the back of registration form.)  If fee is not paid by due date cost will be $20.00 at the gate. April 21-22 Sept. 29-30 Buffalo Run Endurance Ride, Hosted by Wood Guest Ranch, 245 E2020 Rd, Boswell, Oklahoma 74727. Experience the ideal equestrian weekend outing. The southeastern Oklahoma area, where Wood Guest Ranch is located, normally experiences mild weather in the spring, and Wood Guest Ranch provides easy trails to ride. The access roads to Wood Guest Ranch camp are paved except for the last ¼ mile, making getting to the camp easy. The campground is horse-friendly with paddocks, wash-racks, RV hookups, showers and laundry facilities. Dogs on leash are welcome. Remember, for ecological maintenance concerns: Pack it in, Pack it out. All breeds and genders of equines are welcome and encouraged. Equines must be at least 48 months of age to enter the limited distance ride and at least 60 months of age to enter the endurance ride. The trail is nicely mowed, fairly flat, but does have areas with few rocks. Our trails are rated barefoot friendly. All veterinarian (vet) checks are in camp. There is water in camp so there is no need for you to haul water to the vet examination area. Start: the 50-mile ride will start at 7:00 AM, and the 25/30-mile ride will start at 7:30 AM. Trainers will have 130 days to train their rescue horse into a well-mannered riding partner. Trainer and horse teams will strut their stuff.  Don’t miss this heartwarming event! Experience first-hand Blaze’s rescue horses overcoming life’s toughest challenges of abuse and neglect. Blaze’s Ride to the Rescue Trainer’s Challenge helps these rescue horses to defy the odds, to thrive and to succeed with a second chance in life. May 19 Spring Trail Ride Hosted by Woolaroc Museum & Wildlife Preserve, Bartlesville, OK. 9:30 AM - 5 PM. The country retreat of oilman Frank Phillips - Woolaroc is hidden away in the beauty of the rolling Osage Hills. The trail ride covers approximately 15 miles of terrain that is rarely if ever, seen by the general public. Nothing would have pleased Mr. Phillips more than to have known that riders were enjoying his ranch doing something he loved to do... ride. It is common to see buffalo, elk, deer and longhorn cattle along the trails of Woolaroc. Arrival and check-in time 7 - 9 am. Riders must supply their own horse and gear. May 19 (raindate June 2nd) Benefit Trail Ride for Ann Henderson at Lindsay, OK 10 am.  Ann is going through cancer treatments.  She is a board member, playday chairman and drill team member of the Indian Territory Roundup Club.  She is an overall great horsewoman. All proceeds will go to assist Ann with medical costs and travel for cancer treatments. Registration begins at 8:30 am, ride begins promptly at 10:00am. May 20 Oklahoma Eventing Circuit Combined Training Show, Celtic Cross Equestrian Center 14100 E Cedar Ln Norman OK 73026, Once a Rider/Horse Combination enters one of the shows that is part of the Oklahoma Eventing Circuit, they are eligible for year end awards. Champion and Reserve Champion prizes along with 1st - 6th place ribbons will be awarded to horse/rider combinations based upon points earned during the calendar year at horse trials or combined tests held at the following facilities. An overall Rider of the Year Award for both Seniors and Juniors will be awarded. Sept. 29-30 Buffalo Run Endurance Ride, Hosted by Wood Guest Ranch, Boswell, Oklahoma/ All breeds and genders of equines are welcome and encouraged. Equines must be at least 48 months of age to enter the limited distance ride and at least 60 months of age to enter the endurance ride. The trail is nicely mowed, fairly flat, but does have areas with few rocks. Our trails are rated barefoot friendly. All veterinarian (vet) checks are in camp. Start: the 50-mile ride will start at 7:00 AM, and the 25/30-mile ride will start at 7:30 AM. The Introductory ride will start after all the 25/30s have gone.
